THE STORY

Ava remembers her childhood home as a place full of amazing treasures and adventures.

The day she returns home from university, however, everything changes: what used to be a place for adventures has become an oppressive box, and her mother’s things and fear of letting go overwhelm their home and their relationship.

By dipping into memories and sharing a moment in time, can mother and daughter reach an understanding?

This film feels like someone finally gets it. It’s a gentle, beautiful way to say, ‘You’re not alone'.

CROWDFUNDER & PREMIERE

HOARDING AWARENESS WEEK

We are proud to be part of National Hoarding Awareness Week.

Of All The Things launched a crowd fund campaign during Hoarding Awareness Week 2024 with an event at Phoenix Independent Cinema in Leicester, bringing together leading support and research voices. This event marked the beginning of a six-week crowdfund and corporate outreach that, alongside support from the BFI NETWORK through National Lottery funding, secured the necessary resources to complete the film.

One year later, the film returned to Phoenix for its premiere, followed by a panel featuring experts from Holistic Hoarding, Hoarding Disorders UK, Hoarding UK, Clouds End, and Leicestershire Fire & Rescue Service.

The powerful response proved the film’s mission to challenge stigma and spark compassionate conversations as it embarked on the international festival circuit.

A poignant and wonderful way to express a serious subject using animation to educate or soothe a knowing audience.

OUR JOURNEY

THE MAKING OF...

Of All The Things started as a vision from our Director, Steff Lee. who wanted to use the power of animation to unpack the complexities of hoarding in a way that anyone could understand. The goal was to build empathy for a widely misunderstood topic.

Despite the strength of the concept, the project initially struggled to find the right funding.

When Producer Bella Tomlinson joined Kino Bino Animation Studio, she immediately saw the potential in the idea and suggested developing it into a narrative-driven short film.

Together with writer Maria Galliani Dyrvik, the team successfully pitched this new vision to BFI NETWORK, securing the funding needed to get started.

OVERCOMING CHALLENGES

Pre-production began with a team of talented young women working on design, storyboards, and character development. However, we soon hit a bumpy patch. As commercial projects quietened down, we had to hit the pause button and rethink our next steps.

We decided to launch a crowdfunding campaign and were blown away by the response. A supportive network quickly rallied round the film, including hoarding support groups, the local fire service, universities, and over ten corporate sponsors.

With the funding secured, a brilliant team of animators joined the crew to help us finish the production.

We completed the film just in time for Hoarding Awareness Week, celebrating with a special premiere at Leicester’s Phoenix Cinema.

SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION

albert trained

We completed Albert training as part of the production of 'Of All The Things', ensuring that we worked to the highest industry standards for environmental sustainability.

The training provided us with practical tools and knowledge to embed sustainable practices throughout the filmmaking process, from pre-production through to post.

INCLUSIVE SCREENINGS

ACCESSIBLE TO ALL

The film is designed with accessibility at its core. We can provide descriptive subtitles and audio description, ensuring the story remains clear and emotionally engaging for all audiences.

As a non-dialogue animation, it is also universally accessible, allowing viewers worldwide to connect with the narrative regardless of language, while making it especially suitable for international audiences, festivals, and inclusive screenings.
